Service Description

Communicating with schools can sometimes feel challenging, especially when conversations involve additional learning needs (ALN), behavioural concerns, or academic progress. Parents may feel unheard or unsure how to express their child’s needs in a way that leads to meaningful action. Without clear and effective communication, important concerns may be overlooked, delaying the support a child requires. Different schools also use different policies, procedures, and communication platforms, making it hard to know the best approach. At JLW Consultancy, our School Communication Support Service helps parents build strong, constructive relationships with schools. We provide practical guidance and personalised strategies to ensure that your child’s needs are clearly understood and addressed. We help parents to: • Prepare for meetings with teachers or school leaders — organising key concerns, setting clear objectives, and knowing the right questions to ask. • Write professional and persuasive emails or letters — ensuring important information is recorded and presented effectively. • Understand school policies and parental rights — so you know what to expect and how to ensure compliance. • Advocate confidently for your child — using evidence and structured communication to secure appropriate support. Frequently Asked Questions • What’s the best way to communicate with my child’s teacher? Use clear, respectful email correspondence and scheduled meetings for important discussions. • How can I track my child’s progress? Schools typically share updates through newsletters, online portals, and regular progress reports. • What if I feel my concerns are ignored? Keep records of all communication, escalate issues to senior leadership, and seek advocacy support if needed. • How do I express my child’s learning needs? Provide specific details and evidence, and request a structured meeting to discuss next steps. • What digital platforms might schools use? Systems like ClassDojo, ParentMail, or school-based portals are common. • How can I prepare for parent-teacher meetings? Make a concise list of concerns and desired outcomes, and bring any relevant reports or assessments. • Can I request written follow-up after meetings? Yes — parents can always ask for written summaries to ensure clarity and accountability. • How can I build a positive relationship with teachers? Regular engagement, appreciation, and open, respectful dialogue help create strong partnerships.
