Service Description

School reports and policies are key tools for understanding a child’s progress, but they can be difficult to interpret. Technical terms, grading systems, and dense performance data often leave parents uncertain about what the information really means, or how to respond if something doesn’t look right. Understanding school policies — from behaviour and safeguarding to curriculum design and assessment methods — is just as important. These policies shape how your child learns and how schools respond to concerns. Our Understanding School Reports & Policies Service helps parents turn complex information into clear insights and practical next steps. We support families to: • Decipher school reports and performance data — understanding grades, progress measures, and teacher comments. • Spot concerns or inconsistencies — identifying when information doesn’t reflect your child’s experience or ability. • Request clarification or challenge discrepancies — learning how to raise questions constructively with school staff. • Understand key school policies — from behaviour management to curriculum and assessment procedures. Frequently Asked Questions • How can I interpret my child’s report? We explain grades, assessment language, and what progress indicators really mean. • What if I disagree with an assessment? We show you how to request meetings, provide evidence, and seek a review. • Which school policies matter most? Behaviour, curriculum, inclusion, and assessment policies are key starting points. • How are grades decided? We outline how teachers use assessment criteria and moderation to reach decisions. • Can I request a meeting to discuss a report? Yes — we advise on how to arrange it and what to ask. • How do behaviour policies affect my child? They influence rewards, sanctions, and the overall learning climate. • What if the report highlights concerns? We help you plan follow-up actions, from home strategies to formal interventions. • How can I use reports to support learning? Together we create simple home strategies that build on school feedback. • What role do school policies play in development? Policies guide teaching, wellbeing, and how individual needs are met. • Who can clarify policies? School leadership teams or governors are usually the best contacts, and we show you how to approach them.
