Free resources for 19 October 2026. Today's Williams Consultancy downloads invite children to test an idea, describe what they notice and explain their thinking. Each is a single-page A4 PDF, free without sign-up, payment or an account.

For schools: Paper bridge - test an idea

For primary teachers working with ages 7-11. This 15-minute teacher-led investigation compares a flat and a folded paper bridge. Pupils predict whether each bridge will hold one rubber for ten seconds, keep key conditions the same and record three tests for each design.

You need two identical A4 sheets, two equal-height books, a small rubber, a ruler and a timer. Follow the setup on the sheet and supervise the activity on a stable table. The recording grid and sentence starters help pupils explain what their results show, including when results vary. Do not add heavier loads.

For families: Mystery object - five clues

For an adult and child aged 4-9. Choose a familiar, safe household object and keep it out of the guesser's sight. Give clues about its appearance, feel, use, location and what it is similar to, without naming it.

After hearing the clues, the listener makes a guess and explains which clue helped. Reveal the object and swap roles. Use a sock, wooden spoon or another object an adult has checked. Younger children can use two clues and choose between two objects; older children can improve vague clues or add comparisons. Spoken and drawn answers are welcome.

Print, use and share

Save your chosen PDF and print on A4 at actual size or fit to page. Both are free to print and share for home and school use. Please keep Williams Consultancy branding and the website footer.
