Free resources for 16 October 2026. Two practical, single-page A4 PDFs from Williams Consultancy Group. Choose your school or family download below. There is no charge, account requirement or email sign-up.

For schools: Reading detectives - prove it

For primary teachers and teaching assistants working with ages 7-11. This ten-minute activity includes an original short story, three questions and teacher notes. Pupils retrieve details, suggest an inference and explain a word using clues from the text.

Read the story together, then invite pupils to explain an answer and point to the words that support it. There is room to write or sketch. You can also read the text aloud and accept spoken answers. The teacher notes include possible responses and an extension.

For families: Five-minute reading talk

For parents and carers with children aged 5-11. Use any short page from a story you already have. The card takes you through noticing what happened, finding a clue, playing with one interesting word and choosing a favourite part.

Read aloud, take turns or let your child read, depending on what suits them today. Younger children can use pictures, talk or act out their ideas. Older readers can consider whether a different explanation fits the same clue. Keep it a shared conversation; there is no score.

Print and share

Open your chosen PDF, save a copy and print on A4. Both downloads are free for home and school use. Share them with colleagues or other families and please keep the branding and website footer.
